Christmas

I just spoke to my granny in Austria. She said they have a lot of snow.
So maybe they‘ll have a ,white Christmas‘ this year. In the last 5 years we haven‘t had snow for Christmas (I‘m talking about Linz, Austria).
My relatives here in Sydney asked me if I was sad that I‘m not home for Christmas this year, especially because of the snow.
To be honest - no. Not at all. I don‘t mind the cold. I like snow. But I don‘t need Christmas to enjoy a beautiful winter wonderland.
I don‘t like Christmas. It‘s all about consume and commercel. If people celebrated the real reason for this ,special day‘ I would like it.
So that‘s why I really don‘t mind not being home for Christmas. In Australia it‘s summer in December – just like anywhere else on the southern hemisphere. So people will be running around in their shorts and swimmers, thongs (,thongs‘ as the Australians understand it), hats and sunnies. That doesn‘t really feel like Christmas to me.
I guess that‘s the ,easiest way‘ to escape from the usual Christmas rush.
